Winkel Workout

How can you use the semi-public space of stores without being a consumer? During Kaapstad 2018 we invited the shopping audience to join us for a short workout in Primark. We did exercises like stretching, running, jumping over shoes, climbing under clothing racks, avoiding customers and having a cool down with a product.

We did a few workouts in the Primark. The first round the security guy asked us not to run on the escalators, because accidents with childeren are quite common. The second round he asked us politely to be aware of the safety guidelines because of the escape routes in case of emergency. The third round he asked us not to climb under racks because we were scaring the visitors. After the fourth round we we asked to leave.

This series is a follow-up from a performance practise we developed in collaboration with Gijs Velsink. We questioned how to use the semi-public spaces from stores as a human-being instead of a consumer. Read more about that here.
